Fog again. I knew I shouldn't have listened to those old miners and come here to pan gold. Those old men retired decades ago; every scrap of information they gave me is out of date… not one of it useful! Fine state of things—in the fog I can't pan any gold, and I can't even find the way home. I wonder if Dongdong has been eating properly.
From somewhere in the fog, direction unknown, came the voices of hilichurls. Maybe I should walk the opposite way from the sound—then I might be saved…
I don't know how long I've walked. The heavy fog still hasn't lifted; you can't tell day from night. But ahead there seem to be faint human shapes? Rex Lapis protect me that I haven't gone wrong—if I follow them I might yet be saved! All right, that's the plan.
The figures in the mist look a bit wrong. I've made camp here and will wait for them to leave before thinking how to go. Maybe I ought to turn back after all.
